Valentines Gig Review

First up were A&E, with PJ on guitar, Rhys on the bass and Ben on the drums and they got the night going with a bang.  As soon as they started to play you could hear the crowd whooping. This band were all about punk, with the lead guitarist showing his charismatic side from the word go and chatting with the crowd between songs. Their short peice called ‘Bobby’s Song’ was hailed with head banging. Although these guys were tasked with getting the night off to a good start the pressure didn’t show and they pulled it off with ease.

Next up was Take Your Pick, a five piece rock band with Rachel singing, Louise on bass, Kaydee on rhythm guitar, Ellen on lead and Roberta on the drums. These girls really knew what they were doing and it showed. The crowd loved them and were jumping all around. Their songs focussed on boys and related issues and they finished with their latest track ‘Casanova’ which was met with cheers. This band changed between songs with great fluidity and ease, their flare for music really shone through.

On third was the band Shattered Intent. The band members were Dom on guitar and vocals, Ryan also on guitar, Louis on the drums and Matteo on bass. These four guys were all under 14 years old and at first glance you might think that they might be Justin Bieber’s newest rivals but they they better than that. With their Indie style riffs and not a not a note out of place the crowd loved this band, especially their song ‘Best We’ve Ever Had’. These guys gave an amazing end to the first half of the show, ending their set to the cheers of the crowd.

Fourth were The Final Rumour. Another girl band who include Laura singing, Kat on guitar, Katrina on bass, and Jodie on the drums. These girls were tasked with getting the crowd excited after a break from the music but they did it without breaking a sweat. As soon as they started playing the hall quickly filled and was buzzing with activity once more. These girls had fans cheering them on from the front of the stage, including Shattered Intent who had just been on. Another band with an Indie look and sound and the crowd went wild for it.

Second to last were Years May Pass. They started off with a cover of chart topper ‘Anarchy In The UK’ which got an immediately got the response which they were inevitably after. On vocals were Seb, Greg on guitar, William on the bass and Jimmy at the drums. They followed up their opening song with other hits from Jimmy Hendrix and The Clash. Finishing on a song of their own composition. These guys were putting a huge amount of energy into their music and it shone through their performance on stage.

Headlining that night were Semi-Skimmed Awesome, loyal performers at the Music Room Venue. They included Marly singing and on lead guitar, D’andre on vocals and rhythm guitar, Simmeon on the drums and TK who was standing in for the usual bassist Tom. This guys had enormous talent, the guitarists seemed to have lightning-quick fingers and at one point Marley began playing with his guitar held behind his head. The crowd loved these four and it’s clear why they were headlining. The group finished with ‘FCP Remix’ a song which ended the night with as much energy as it was started with. It’s clear they have a future in rock. A great performance.
